Laws lays down the law

Amy Laws

The appropriately named Amy Laws has been named the top Law student at the University.

Amy, from Pennywell, has won the Ede and Ravenscroft Prize for the best Undergraduate Law Student, and now plans to continue her studies.

Amy, 21, was always considered a high-flyer, but turned down chances to apply to Cambridge in order to study Law at her hometown university.

“Whilst I was at college I was advised to apply to a wide variety of universities, including Cambridge,” she say, “but after attending an open day at the University of Sunderland, I knew exactly where I wanted to study for my degree.

“My experience at Sunderland was outstanding from start to finish. The staff are second to none and I would advise any student planning a career in Law to consider the University of Sunderland.”

Despite always being a high achiever Amy says that winning the Ede and Ravenscroft Prize was “a real shock”.

She says: “It was something that I never considered myself capable of. It is an honour and a privilege to be recognised.”

Now Amy is returning to Sunderland to study a Masters Degree in Law, with the ultimate goal of becoming a law lecturer.
