Where Are You Now?

Megan Waggott

Mégan Waggott

BA Journalism 2009

Mégan graduated with a degree in Journalism from the University of Sunderland in 2009. Having gained extensive experience working in the local press, Mégan now enjoys servicing client accounts to an outstanding level. As a senior account executive at Narrative Communications, Mégan is totally committed to getting results.

She said: “In my five and a half years at Narrative (formerly Press Ahead) I’ve witnessed the company withstand a management buyout and a rebrand, while becoming more digitally focussed, so adapting through this change has at times been personally challenging, but at the same time it’s been really positive to see the business grow and develop into new areas.

“It’s always fulfilling to see a successful project through from start to finish and I’ve worked with a number of public and private sector clients on rewarding campaigns. Working with reputable brand, Berghaus to organise kit for celebrities taking part in Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day Desert Trek was one of my most memorable experiences.”

Away from work she loves to spend time cooing over her baby girl and enjoys dabbling with arts and crafts when she can!

Mégan said: “Since returning to Narrative after a nine month maternity break, I would say that juggling life as a working mam is my biggest challenge to date!”

The 28-year-old was initially attracted to the University of Sunderland because she’d heard great things about the University’s media department and she wanted to stay in the North East.

She explained: “With many of the same disciplines as journalism, I was always interested in a career in PR and I left university with transferable skills needed to start out in the industry.

"The University of Sunderland had a great internship scheme in place for graduates looking to break into their dream jobs and I was lucky enough to be chosen for a PR internship with Press Ahead in 2010.”
