Sara Heraoua, who studied Illustration and Design, was one of the 5 lucky students to be awarded the Mike Davies Scholars Scholarship which supports them throughout the 3 year course at the University. Not only is it a scholarship that supports students financially, but Mike also supports them with his mentoring skills, offering his expert advice and guidance.
“During the last three years, I’ve developed my artistic practice in ways I never thought possible. Building confidence, gaining experience and having this amazing scholarship”, said Sara.
Sara started out as a very timid student who lacked confidence but the after being selected for the scholarship alongside another classmate this helped Sara overcome some of her fears, “I was chosen, along with someone in my class who I admire a great deal”, Sara said.
Sara flourished throughout the 3 years at the University with the help of Mikes support. Overcoming travel for the first time to London and the ‘scary’ tube. Then during Saras final trip to visit Mike she was boosting with confidence and guiding the rest of the group with pride.
Sara said “The scholarship has most importantly provided me with a network and mentorship that has developed and supported me not only in my art but as a human. “I’m very grateful to have been picked alongside amazing people like Meg, Hannah, Sally and Madalina. They’re wonderful artists and amazing people and lucky to know”.
