Clinton kickstarts a Sports Journalism career

Clinton Forde

Only two months after graduating, Clinton Forde was awarded a 6 month internship under a Creative Access scheme at ITV Tyne Tees.

"I'm going to be covering news which will include sport at ITV Tyne Tees," he explained. "I'm also a Newcastle United vlogger who has recently just hit 1k subscribers so I'll use my YouTube channel to voice my opinion on anything sports related."

The MA Sports Journalism graduate took full advantage of the opportunities available to him while studying at the University and gained some fantastic experience to help build his CV.

Clinton became a member of the Made in Tyne & Wear team, assisting on various programmes in their schedule at their base at the St Peter’s Campus.

The 31-year-old also worked as a Media Assistant at Blyth Spartans, recording and editing match highlights and player interviews as they progressed to the Northumberland Senior Cup Final.

For Clinton, the most rewarding and enjoyable aspect of studying at Sunderland, was being able to try new and different techniques when it came to creating video pieces.

He said: “Experimenting with the weird and wonderful world of video journalism is something I’ve particularly like doing. It’s helped me to pick up a load of new skills.”

The experience of working in the real world while studying here has given Clinton full confidence to begin to pursue a career in the industry, and he has big long-term plans too.

“I’d like to keep working within the media sector and gain experience as a well rounded sport journalist and hopefully develop my own programme dedicated to grassroots activity within sport in the future.”
