SEGi Presidential Scholarship Awards 2016

Malaysia scholarship

Vice Chancellor Shirley Atkinson presented 24 SEGi Presidential Scholarship Award winners with their official certificates during a ceremony held at the University’s Sunderland Campus in April.

In attendance were the awardees, members of the SE Asia Regional Office and the International team at the University.

The scholarship was commissioned as part of the outgoing University of Sunderland President Professor Peter Fidler’s presidential scholarship campaign. The award allowed students from SEGi (TNE Partner) the opportunity to study in the UK through their high academic ability. The ceremony was to mark the achievement of being awarded the scholarship to study one year at the University and to help them in their future job prospects.

The students have proven to be valuable members of the University community, James Madeley, International Officer, explained: “They have been involved with the Malaysian society in arranging events such as the Chinese New Year held in Sunderland where 250 students, staff and members of the local community attended. They are also very academically strong with many of the students predicted to get First Class and 2.1 degrees once they completed their studies with the University.”

Gideon Lim Qian, Scholarship awardee, added: “This has been a wonderful experience for all the students in meeting the Vice Chancellor and our entire year here has been fantastic.

“I’d like to thank the University for giving me this opportunity and all the pathways it has opened up for me while I have been here. Getting the chance to meet different nationalities, being part of societies and learning in the modern facilities with incredible lecturers has been a great experience.”
