Legal Practice student, Irish, had a chance to visit London with the Law Society to visit and explore key places of legal history.
Due to lack of funds Irish got in touch with the Development Office to help towards the trip and was awarded the Futures Fund Opportunity Scholarship.
“I think this trip is beneficial especially to an undergraduate law student because of the exposure it gives. I’ve acquired new knowledge during the tours and briefs at the different venues, for some people like me is a great way to learn. The trip was definitely worth it and I will be taking advantage of all the information I am aware of now and visiting those venues to sit in for hearings and parliamentary debates,” Irish said.
She also visited the Royal Courts of Justice, Houses of Parliament, Palace of Westminster as well as the Supreme Court which all help with her studies.
Irish said “This trip has contributed to my learning as I could reflect on my advocacy skills, understand how trials are conducted and how barristers present their evidence and submissions in court. The trip supported my learning as it increased my knowledge of the English Justice System and its jurisdictions overseas. I learnt about the works of parliament; how live debates are conducted and the different opportunities available to students after graduation with the court.”
“This opportunity has enlightened me and its another way of furthering my legal career. Without the funding I would not have been able to gain this experience, improve my skills and widen my horizons”.
