Tolu Oyebanji
BSc Applied Biomedical Science 2012
Tolu Oyebanji was in no doubt what she wanted from her degree – an investment in her future as a biomedical scientist. Tolu, who graduated from BSc Applied Biomedical Science in 2012, now works as Biomedical Scientist at Scarborough General Hospital.
“It was only after attending an Open Day at Sunderland that my mind was made up. I was so impressed with facilities, the friendly atmosphere and all the opportunities on offer that there was no other choice,” said Tolu, 25. “The taster session for the course I wanted to do was an added bonus and made me realise how relevant it would be to my chosen career.”
In her third year Tolu completed a placement in the Microbiology department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead.
“The placement was a tremendous experience, providing me with an excellent insight into the working environment as a biomedical scientist. This was a real confidence boost that prepared me for life after graduation.
“Completing a placement year as well as a final year project in the hospital, I believe made my qualification stand out.
“I love my job at Scarborough, but I know none of this would have been possible without those incredible experiences at Sunderland and that crucial support from my lecturers.”
