Ronald Vong
BA (Hons) Business & Management 2009
MBA 2011
Singapore-based alumnus Ronald Vong works as Regional Sales Manager at a Financial Technological company, JK Tech Holdings.
Talking about his role, Ronald said: “We support customers worldwide by providing solutions for automated payment, token-based secure transactions and identity authentication.”
After joining, he quickly made an impact at the firm and has successfully penetrated into the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), a market with huge potential as member countries have a combined population of approximately 625 million people.
At the same time this is one of his biggest challenges.
“We need to do a lot of research to understand the business needs and the differences between the ASEAN countries,” he explained.
Ronald, who completed both an undergraduate and postgraduate programme at the University of Sunderland, knew this was the place where he wanted to study after visiting the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s.
This is a decision he has never regretted.
“The course was absolutely awesome and most important the friendships that I forged while I was there,” he said.
Talking about who influenced him most at the University, he said: “Joel Arnott during my placement year and Dr Tie Xu during my MBA year, they were my supervisors on my final thesis. They were very helpful in both of my dissertations. I still remember when Joel visited me during my placement; we had a good chat with a burger and a lager. It seems like it was only just yesterday.”
When asked about what he would tell current students, he answered: “Work smart and never give up on your dream, most importantly believe in yourself, don’t be shy and determination counts.”
In the future, Ronald would like to retire in Sunderland.
