Dr Stephen Jones

Stephen Jones graduated in 1981 and undertook at PhD in Drug Delivery at the University of Nottingham which he completed in 1985, initially joining Beecham Research Laboratories and then took a job with Sterling Winthrop in Alnwick. Following seven years working at Sterling Winthrop, he moved to Scherer Drug Delivery Systems as Technical Director in 1995 and then on to GlaxoSmithKline in 1997, initially as Senior Director, Product Development, but was promoted to Vice President, Research and Development in January 2000, a role he held until 2006.
He was then appointed Chief Executive Officer of Evocutis, a company conducting advanced laboratory and clinical evaluations of skincare products. In 2012, he started as Group Chief Executive Officer of Veriton Pharma Ltd, a company focused on the development and distribution of unlicensed medicines for patients, especially children. In 2020 he led on the sale of Veriton to Serb Pharma.
Stephen reflects: “I have successfully led established brands and departments, mergers, acquisitions and company sales. I have also led several rounds of equity fund raising (on AiM) for technology start-ups within Pharma, Biotech and Pharmaceutical services sectors.
Studying in Sunderland helped to open my eyes to the world - the diversity of people, values and culture on my course was fabulous. It had everything you could have wished for - sport, music, and plenty of opportunities to have fun. How lucky was I?”
