Santander Education Scholarships


The £5,000 Santander Education award: Santander Education will award six full-time undergraduate or postgraduate student from University of Sunderland £5,000.

The Scholarship is open to any Home* student over the age of 18 currently studying full-time on an undergraduate or postgraduate course. Santander are offering £5,000 of non-repayable support to six University of Sunderland students which can be used to cover essential educational costs such as tuition fees, course materials and accommodation or anything else that will help create an environment where you can better focus on your studies. 

*Home students are those living in the UK or Republic of Ireland, and EU nationals with settled status in the UK.

To enter follow these 5 simple steps:

1. If you haven’t already, click HERE for Santander Open Academy - a free online learning platform

2. Follow the verification link in your confirmation email.

3. Log in and choose ‘Get Started’ to complete your entry into the Santander Education programme. From the menu you need to select “University of Sunderland”.

4. Submit 250 words in reply to the following question: “What impact would be being awarded a Santander Scholarship have on your university education?” We strongly advise that you write this before logging on to the Santander Open Academy. In your application please emphasise the points outlined above about how the money will help you create an environment to help you focus on your studies.

5. Get your entries submitted by 11pm on 19 February 2026. All of our full-time current students are eligible to enter, including undergraduates and postgraduates. You don’t need to bank with Santander to get involved, and you don’t need to open a Santander account. Spread the word, share with your friends, course mates and housemates.

Santander Universities’ mission is to support students into university, work and self-employment. Collaborating with a large network of university partners, they have spent over 10 successful years removing barriers to higher education and, in turn, providing life changing opportunities to students from across the country.

For our students here at Sunderland, this has provided over £400,000 of financial support which is non repayable, non means tested and there is no commitment to open a Santander bank account.
