Archer scholar pursues dream at New York
PhD Student Joanna Manousis was able to make a dream a reality with help of the David and Mary Archer Scholarship.
Joanna was invited to attend and participate in ‘MAD About Jewelry’ which is an exhibition of leading contemporary jewellery at The Museum of Art and Design in New York. “The Archer Opportunity Scholarship gave me the essential funds needed to support my travel costs to attend the event”.
The practise-based student relocated to Sunderland with her Glass Artist husband to pursue her studies.
She said: “My research explores the potential of mirroring on dimensional cast glass sculpture, a specialist area of glassmaking which I have been interested in for over a decade. With 17 years of glass making experience, I have studied, taught, and exhibited internationally”.
Joanna added: “I met international artists, collectors, curators, and the public. One of my brooches was featured in Harper's Bazaar magazine online and reposted through NYC jewellery week and some prominent curators Instagram feeds.
“Due to my participation, I have been invited to exhibit my work in two other exhibitions in the Chicago and Brooklyn, NY. These opportunities could not have happened without the support of the Archer Prize”.
