The Mary & Brian Archer Opportunity Scholarships
The University is the recipient of a generous donation in memory of Mary & Brian Archer, who both taught at the Technical College and then Sunderland Polytechnic.
Brian Archer was the first Warden of Wearmouth Hall when it opened in 1963 and went on to become Head of the Civil Engineering Department. Mary Archer taught in the Pharmacy Department before having a family. They were both true advocates of the University of Sunderland and these scholarships have been set up to continue their passion for helping students receive the greatest opportunities through education.
There are 4 awards available annually of up to £750 each.Applications are welcome from students at all levels*.
*Full time/PArt time Home/EU/OS students studying at Sunderland or London Campus. This programme does not support PhD study/IT equipment

Applications to this programme are currently open.
Applications will be assessed by the awarding committee and selection will be based upon the written criteria downloadable below. Please ensure you include the following in your application:
- Clarity of your chosen opportunity and how this will support your studies.
- Clear outline of outputs, discuss the benefits to the student and include a timeline of activity.
- Include details of associated costs and itemise each element within the financial breakdown.
- A supporting academic reference is required to support the merit of the application.
