Business and management graduate lands dream role at Jaguar

Jian Zhong

A University of Sunderland graduate has secured the job of a lifetime at top car manufacturer Jaguar, and says his time studying gave him the platform for success.

Jiang Zhong studied BA (Hons) Business and Management, graduating in 2007, and then went on to further study with the University completing MA International Management in 2009. He is now a project manager at Jaguar Land Rover UK, and says that the focus on practical, as well as theoretical teaching was vital in helping him achieve his career aspirations.

Jiang said: “This is the university that brings you the real value and it designs to fulfil individual's potential to future career success, by not only teaching the theoretical learning aspect, but also providing real employment opportunities.

“The lecturers and members of staff were so friendly and helped students not just learning but looking for their career path at the same time.

“The course included many company visits to some world leading firms which gave me a truly in-depth understanding of a real organisation.”

As part of his role, Jiang leads the Chassis engineering team to make sure the entire attribute and design aspect is met and delivered within the program timing, as well as enables the launch to the market in China and Brazil.

The 28-year-old is proud about his achievements so far: “My greatest achievement to date has been successfully graduated with a MA International Management at the University of Sunderland. Other big achievement was at my previous job where I helped the company setting up a global supplier chain for a brand new generator manufacturing in UK and China.”

Having moved to Kenilworth now, the graduate still recalls the time he spent in Sunderland: “There are lots to do over there, I often went to the beach, went shopping in the city centre, or went to the Stadium of Light to watch football. Sunderland is a nice city by the sea that has everything that a foreign student like me could be after.”

Jiang’s word of advice to current students is to start looking and exploring their career options as soon as possible and don’t wait after graduation to make decisions.
