Jezzelle Kellam is a graphic artist from Kent and she moved to the North East to study her BA and was awarded the Robson Masters Scholarship to support her Masters, allowing her to continue her studies at the University.
Jezzelle was able to use the funds towards her degree show and grown even more as an artist. “Throughout my studies, I started to focus on the body. By making decisions to remove heads and parts of the body. I have used this as a main focus in my work for years now. As I feel like it articulates my way of thinking best. At my Master’s, I was able to stretch the corners and create new works that look visually different. I am so grateful for this progress as it was something I was able to achieve through this scholarship”, Jezzelle said.
Thanks to the scholarship Jezzelle felt she was able to experiment with different compositions, techniques and take bigger risks with being more financially aided. Jezzelle went on the say “I feel so lucky that I was able to produce these newer and different ideas as it has had a huge impact on my future work. I needed to branch out, the award was incredible for that as it gave me a leg to stand on and bring these new ideas forward. Sometimes it takes years for artists to be able to evolve what they are doing. The support I received allowed me to do just that in a short amount of time”.
“Much of the success I owe to the care I received from the award. Creating work like this gave me joy and made me feel like a true artist. I wouldn’t have known that if I wasn’t given an opportunity like this.”
Jezzelle finished by saying “This scholarship has by far provided me with the financial support that I needed to complete my work, it has also benefitted me so much more than that. The impact it has showered upon me in my future endeavours has been continuous and is still in effect from all the connections, development and growth I was able to achieve through the support.”
