Paige Mooney
BA (Hons) Fashion Journalism 2015
Paige has wasted no time in beginning her career in the fashion industry, having secured the opportunity of a lifetime to work at the highly-respected Vogue Magazine as a Beauty Intern less than a year after graduating.
The BA Fashion Journalism graduate has already built up a wealth of experience since graduating in 2015, having interned for fashion giants Elle and InStyle prior to joining Vogue.
Paige has quickly become an integral member of the Vogue team and has been given a wide range of responsibilities since joining in early 2016.
She said: “I assist the beauty team by researching for their stories, calling in sample products to test, delivering post, preparing products for shoots, attending press launches, events and meetings, gathering product credits and any extra admin or assistance needed when the team are too busy.”
For Paige, it was the array of journalism courses offered and the helpfulness of the teaching team that initially attracted her to the University of Sunderland.
“I visited the Uni for the open day and was really impressed with the journalism programmes they offered,” she explained. “All the lecturers I had met seemed friendly.”
The 21-year-old also had one key piece of advice for anyone looking to make a break in the industry.
She advised: “Set your goals out clearly. Make sure you know exactly what direction you want to head in and don’t be scared to email directly. My internships have enabled me to make great contacts and have great opportunities.”
With her mind clearly set on a long career in the fashion industry, the sky seems to be the limit for this ambitious graduate.
She concluded: “I want to start applying for permanent positions in beauty editorial and continue along this path.”
