Lauren Green
BA Fashion Journalism 2014
Fashion Journalism graduate Lauren Green landed her dream job straight out of university as a Web Content Writer at Last Night of Freedom. Lauren is part of a team that has successfully delivered over 25,000 stag and hen weekends since 1999. The 24-year-old provides copy to promote the exciting activities and destinations.
She said: “This includes travel guides, infographics, articles, product descriptions, alongside external content for various magazines and websites. As part of the role, I also visit many destinations – most recently Dublin – to get first-hand knowledge of our many locations.”
The BA Fashion Journalism graduate has already built up a wealth of experience since graduating in 2014 and says she is happy to keep working in the content industry.
“This role has provided me with vast knowledge of the content industry as a whole, along with being a fantastic place to work.”
For Lauren, it was the course and the location that initially attracted her to the University of Sunderland.
She said: “When I applied for university in 2011, Sunderland and London were the only universities to offer the specific Fashion Journalism course. And, as a northerner, I wanted to stay close to family, yet still in an exciting city.
“The course modules were also fantastic, and I could see they would benefit my future career.
“Sunderland was a great city to experience university in, and the actual uni facilities were second to none.”
Talking about who influenced her most during her time at Sunderland, Lauren said: “My course mates were the biggest influence during my degree, as they helped me understand and see things in many different ways.
“They were also great on a night celebrating after a seminar. My lecturers were, of course, also a big part of my degree, and helped steer me on a career path right for me.”
Lauren also had one key piece of advice for anyone looking to make a break in the industry.
She advised: “If you see a role that you believe is right for you, go for it. Don’t doubt yourself and wait to apply, do it as you have nothing to lose.”
With her mind clearly set on a long career in the content industry, Lauren plans to keep learning and growing professionally.
She concluded: “I plan to work in the content industry for many years to come, picking up more skills and experiences along the way.”
