BA Criminology with Psychology 2011
Alumnus Jonny Brown has established himself stateside by helping clients buy, sell and invest in Southern Californian real estate.
Jonny, who graduated in 2011, first moved to San Diego to study at San Diego State University through the University of Sunderland Exchange Programme. He now holds the position of REALTOR® with Coldwell Banker West.
Jonny explained: “I provide all the tools and contracts necessary to streamline the pre-approval process, successful offer acceptance and escrow completion.
“I established an LLC in 2020, Hampton Brown Real Estate, which I independently own and operate. Establishing myself in the US was a big challenge as it can be an alien environment to newcomers.”
At 27, Jonny purchased his first home in San Diego, a city which holds the distinction of being the nations most unaffordable housing market.
Jonny studied a combined course of Criminology and Psychology at the University of Sunderland. He said: “Sunderland captured my attention and later my heart with its curriculum and enthusiasm for education and growth.
“One of my Criminology professors, Anthony Amatrudo, was a great influence on me. I still hear his voice in my head to this day and he taught me invaluable lessons that I use regularly in business.”
Jonny has some brilliant advice for those about to graduate and enter the world of work. He said: “You have worked incredibly hard on your achievements so far and each step you take on your career ladder is more important than the speed in which you take it.
“Know your value and your worth. If you need to take a part-time job as a stopgap while you position yourself accordingly, do it.”
Jonny and his wife Becca will soon be welcoming their baby girl into the world so his next challenge is to balance the growth of his business with the role of Dad.
