Mark Nesbitt
MSc Electrical and Electronic Engineering 1980
Mark Nesbitt has enjoyed nearly four decades in the Electronic industry after graduating from the University of Sunderland.
Having worked his way through the ranks, he currently heads up his own team working on Cirrus Logic’s microphone range as a Validation engineer.
For Mark, a student who was born and bred in the area, it was the intuition and desire of his fellow students that spurred him on to take the major step to relocate in search of his dream career.
When asked who influenced him most, he replied: “A small group of British based students who moved to Scotland after graduating. I followed them four years later!”
As a local lad, seeing the expansion and progression of the University has been a major source of pride for the engineer. His abiding memory of the city is: “Watching the College grow from a top Polytechnic into a respected University.”
Mark’s message to recent graduates is to ensure that you are as well prepared as possible to step straight in to your dream job.
“Make sure that your skill set and ambitions are a perfect match to their dream employer,” he advised.
After a long and distinguished career, Mark is planning on a reduced workload where he can have more flexibility and freedom in the future.
He added that he would love to: “Work part time or on temporary consultancy projects of my choosing.”
