Where Are You Now?

Andrew Lane

Andrew Lane

BSc Pharmacy 1981

Andrew is originally from Marske by the Sea, and  claims that he chose to study at Sunderland because of the reputation of the School of Pharmacy and also because he would be away from home but still able to take his washing home occasionally!

Andrew spent his pre-registration year at Boots after graduating in 1981 and progressed to become Superintendent Pharmacist for 16 pharmacies in Southampton, subsequently to Lloyds as an area manager. He set up his own community pharmacy business,  AlChem, in 2004 and has owned  and operated  14 community pharmacies from Yorkshire to Devon. He became specialised in setting up pharmacies in medical centres and opened the first Lloyds Pharmacy Franchise in Aspen Medical Centre in Gloucester in 2014.

Andrew is a Past President of the European Pharmacists' Forum, and was a committee member for the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee for 13 years until 2020. He has been Chair of Gloucestershire Local Pharmaceutical Committee since 2016, and has been  a member of the World Pharmacy Council since 2019.

Andrew was elected to the board of the National Pharmacy Association in 2010, initially to represent the South West, became Vice Chairman in 2018, and then Chair in 2019 which is his current position.
