Where Are You Now?

Tony Everett

Tony Everett (1935 - 2020)

Cert Ed Education 1968

Originally from Surrey, Tony Everett came to Sunderland in the late 60s to teach at the Sunderland Polytechnic, then moved on to the Sunderland College of Education as a Senior Lecturer where he stayed until he retired.

Tony was also a member of The Rotary Club of Sunderland for more than three decades, serving for many years as Secretary or Treasurer, and in other capacities at Club and District level. In 2014 he accepted an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Sunderland on behalf of The Rotary Club of Sunderland for longstanding support and outstanding charitable giving to the institution.

The Rotary Club of Sunderland has a close relationship with the University of Sunderland and the Rotarians have collected funds from car parking at both University campuses in the City around major matches and concerts at the Stadium of Light.

Since 2001 the luminous yellow bibbed gentlemen have collected over £116,000  to support the University’s Futures Fund.

Tony Everett passed away suddenly at the age of 85 in December 2020. The University of Sunderland Development Trust would like to express their condolences to Tony’s family.

Rachel Smith, Head of Development and Alumni, said: “Tony Everett has been a brilliant supporter of the University of Sunderland through the Rotary Club of Sunderland and their tireless efforts manning the University’s car parks, come rain or shine. Their support has ensured we can continue to support our students.

“He was also well-known among Sunderland College of Education graduates and was involved with the Sunderland College of Education Entertainments Committee events.

“Our deepest sympathies go to his family at this very sad time”.
