The University is the recipient of a generous donation from Honorary Graduate, friend and long-time supporter Mike Davies, CBE.
Future Care is a collection of photographic works that pay tribute to health care workers, institutions, and education, reflecting their enduring contributions to society.
The works mark five years since the COVID-19 national lockdowns began, offering a moment for reflection, gratitude, and renewed appreciation. Through a health-centred theme, these images capture the resilience, dedication, and humanity that defined this pivotal period, while exploring the evolving relationship between care, community, and creativity. Future Care invites viewers to honour the past, celebrate progress, and imagine a hopeful future for health and wellbeing.
Created by photographer and Lecturer Johannah Churchill, it features her iconic image Melanie, March 2020 and two new portraits of students representing the future of care and creativity.
In a meaningful gesture of continuity, Johannah invites two students to expand the collection through the addition of their own photographic works, preserving the future of photography through the support of new talent.
This is an exciting open call for all UG students at the Sunderland Campus studying photography, to develop existing work or create something new around healthcare or related subject students.
