Helen Roffe at Stadium of Light

Helen Roffe

BA Business & HR Management 2011

Human Resource Administrator at Sunderland Football Club (SAFC)

After graduating in 2011, Helen applied for an internship at the Stadium of Light, which after a year became a permanent post.

“After graduating I got in touch with the Internship Team after reading about the benefits of the scheme on the University’s website.

“From that first phone call I’ve never looked back. The team set about finding a role that would suit the skills I’d developed throughout my degree and the experiences I’d been involved in.

“I can’t praise the internship scheme highly enough and would recommend any graduates in need of advice about employment opportunities to get in touch!

“Sunderland has helped shape the career path I’m now following, from the first Open Day event I attended and saw what fantastic facilities the university had to offer, to changing my business degree to include Human Resource Management after enjoying a module in the subject in my first year.

“I also took the opportunity to become a student rep, which meant I represented the students on my course when any issues arose. It’s the effort you put in which really enhances your CV and job prospects. All these experiences have given me the confidence to do the job I’m doing with SAFC now.”
