Esther is the Deputy Director at Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi-Araba, Nigeria. She describes herself as “a nurse by profession” and is involved in the nursing care of patients and administration in nursing services.

Asked about her greatest achievement to date, Esther doesn’t hesitate in replying it has been her promotion from Chief Nursing Officer to Deputy Director. However her new responsibilities also represent a challenge.

She said: “It’s a big challenge to administrate and supervise all the wards in a big teaching hospital in Nigeria.”

Esther can praise highly enough her time at the University of Sunderland in London.

She said: “I was initially attracted to the University of Sunderland because the popularity of the University and the location. The standards of teaching were high and the lecturers were skilled and disciplined.

“I also enjoyed meeting students from other countries. One of my abiding memories of my time at the University of Sunderland is the opportunity I had to network with colleagues from different nations. I also recall my lecturer Mr Benjamin Ajibada who influenced me greatly.”

Esther’s advice to current students on how to get a foot on the career ladder is: “Have determination, commitment, focus and absolute trust in God.”

The Sunderland graduate concluded: “I’d like to obtain an MSc and PhD in Nursing and attain the highest position in my profession.”
